Independent Sector, an association representing nonprofit organizations, has cut 11 of its 45 staff as part of an effort to be "more strategic and less structural," Nonprofit Quarterly magazine reported Friday.
IS did not say which staff were cut, but the announcement comes just six months after the hiring of CEO Dan Cardinali.
"We need to enable the experts, not always be the experts," Cardinali said in a letter to members. "We need to be more strategic and less structural. We need to connect and catalyze, listen, and learn. And, like all organizations, we need to be good stewards of our resources."
IS reported $10 million in revenue in its 2015 tax filings—the most recent available—but Cardinali told members the association is forecasting a $1.8 million deficit on revenues of less than $8 million in 2016.
"By making difficult choices now, we gain the flexibility to pursue new opportunities that will be, we believe, important to the sector we serve," the CEO said in his letter. http://bit.ly/2giVfOa
